Hanna Sobachko-Shostak

Representative of so called “peasant Futurism”. Embroiderer at Evgeniia Pribylskaia’s handicraft workshop in the village of Skoptsy (1910-1916), exhibiting items in Kyiv, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Paris, and Berlin. Influenced by Exter who, in 1918, organized an exhibition of her works in Kyiv. On the recommendation of the Department of Art of the Kyiv Soviet (which included Ilia Ehrenburg and Vadimir Meller) Kyiv streets were decorated with panneaux based on Sobachko’s designs to celebrate May Day, 1919.
